MLM Beginner Marketing Mistakes

When you first start an MLM business it is sometimes hard to keep your enthusiasm from showing up in different areas of your life. The added energy enthusiasm supplies is incredible-better than coffee AND 5 Hour Energy combined! Unfortunately enthusiasm can sometimes get in the way of your success, preventing you from seeing the course of action you need for your start-up. That’s what happened to me initially when I first got into the multi level marketing industry over two decades ago. My initial exhilaration caused me to reduce focus on what I had to do to get the good results I wanted.
After several months of trying to learn everything available about marketing, lead generation and my product itself I still hadn’t seen anywhere near the growth I had imagined. I had hit a big roadblock and didn’t know how to get past it. I knew my sponsor and up line were legitimately earning big dollars in the business, so why wasn’t I?
After spending several days getting down on myself for my lack of initial success in my MLM I had a moment of clarity…I knew where I was going wrong! By indulging in pity over the success I wasn’t having, I was making it harder to be successful. So I began to go over everything I had learned over the past few months. It was amazing! Through my company and my sponsor I had been provided hours of instruction and I had gained a great deal of insight and the steps I needed to take to be successful. I had already started to put some of the techniques to work, but I realized also that I had spent so much time learning all of these fantastic techniques that I had overlooked the most important step!
I had not actually completed any of the steps! I had focused on learning instead of doing. I became so overwhelmed with new information and strategies on MLM marketing that I never actually mapped out a plan of the best way to put what I’d learned to work so I would start seeing better results. I had begun taking action but when I hit a roadblock I would put that strategy on the back burner and move on to the next technique. I hadn’t planned on taking this hodge-pod road, but I knew if I didn’t adjust my path and map out a plan I would continue doing a lot and accomplishing nothing. I had set myself up for failure!
I sat down right away and listed all of the things I had begun to do but for one reason or another I hadn’t finished. After my list was complete I went back to the beginning and broke the list down so I could be specific about what I needed to do to finish the task. I ranked the list based on advice from my sponsor and other MLM industry leaders. Then I did what I had neglected to do before…I began to peck away at each task until it was finished. If I encountered roadblocks I tackled them immediately.
I was amazed at how simple the solution was! I had let my initial enthusiasm sabotage me. I had started my MLM business venture with so much excitement that I lost focus of what I needed to do in order to get my business up and going. It was such an easy fix, how had I overlooked this basic premise?
Once I recognized the flaw in my business plan I adjusted it immediately. Organization was key. When I decided to work for myself I was so determined not to get hung up with structure that I tried to create an MLM business with no backbone…and the result was exactly as expected. I fell on my face!
REMEMBER: Theory and education are great, but without action they are worthless!
